RETURN TO NEW PORT VICTORIA
Darian launches the new newspaper, "Gazette of Moons - Port Victoria Edition."
We all ran away that autumn morning. The leaves were already covering the flowerbeds in the large gardens. I usually enjoyed afternoon tea with my friends. Something was already in the air: the elections for the change of Chief Scribe were approaching. I had recently lost my slave, the one the Captain had sold me one evening while we were together at the inn on the harbor drinking Paga. He, running low on tarsk, sold me his slave, Shaila, for five silver piastres, but that night, while I was sleeping, he kidnapped the slave and took her away.
SIR jAMEA |
After some investigation, I discovered that the kidnapper was the captain, so I confronted him and questioned him. He refused to give her back, confessing that he loved that girl madly and would never part with her. At first, I thought about having the man arrested, but then, thinking it over, I forgave him. The next day there were elections, and all the Scribes went to the Caste Palace. I, who had a good chance of becoming Caste leader, waited in the large garden with my friend the healer.
We heard screams and noises coming from the port. Many Pirates had disembarked from some recently arrived ships, and under the captain's orders, they were killing and destroying everything in their path.
Many of us escaped, through the gardens toward the woods on the hill, and from there we descended to a beach. Some boats were waiting for us to join a ship offshore, headed for the city of Northern Light Bay-Kasra.
We arrived at the port, welcomed with friendship. The Ubar arranged our accommodations; nothing had changed, everyone resumed their old roles. I returned to my job as Magistrate. We awaited news of the city of Victoria, which had fallen and been destroyed by fire. But after a few weeks, I left to return to my Oasis of the Seven Palms.
I left the Oasis of the Seven Palms after my long illness. Suya had left me, thinking I would never recover. I returned to her old village of Hansen, while her sister, Pantera, returned to the village of Wa ngao. A good healer saved me from the illness; it was thought I had been poisoned. My first stop was to meet my friend Sir Balrough, a brother who still lived in Kasra with his slave, Macha. I was very well received. Unfortunately, the city was attacked, and the fighting dragged on. So, I took the advice of Lady Kallis, my friend Scribe, to return to the city of Port Victoria, and I left.
Arriving in the new Victoria, I immediately recognized the style of the old, fallen city. I stopped as usual at the tavern on the harbor. There I met Sir Asher and his future companion, Ubar's sister. They welcomed me and showed me around the city, up to the upper levels. I rented a beautiful house there, not far from the Scribes' Palace. On the upper floor, they have the printing press for the "Gazette of Moons," which will be launched with this introductory article. I hope all the citizens will read the newspaper and that I can soon write about their adventures.
