ON THE JOURNEY TO OLNI

The journey was very long. I had left Campus (ooc) just after graduating from Scribe-Magistracy, and Lady Janette and Lady Lucy had invited me to their city called Olni. I had read in the books of Olni's library, an honored city located on the river that bears its name, near the Thentis River, tributaries of the great Wosk River that bisects the entire continent.

I was very young then, memories of the past from the escape from the destroyed oasis to Korat, then back to the North with my adoptive mother, Lady BB Arliss.

She sent me messages every time she changed cities. Her husband, Sir Mith, a great builder, traveled the planet from north to south. He wanted to meet me again, but he missed me, just as he missed my brother Orlando. I replied that one day we would meet and live together in some oasis in the South.

SIR ERIDAN OF OLNI

The years spent on Campus had been tough. I studied night and day. My Southern dialect prevented me from keeping up with the others. I forced myself to keep up with them. Lady Janette had helped me a lot and encouraged me in difficult times. She spoke to me about her city of Olni, the beauty of its towers and its great port, telling me that after graduating as a magistrate, I could practice law with them. Their magistrate, Sir Robby, would soon retire. I was happy that I would finally be a Scribe of the upper caste and would apply the laws I had learned in school.

SCRIBE CAST OLNI

I had never spoken of my noble origins, nor that my father was the Pasha of the oasis of the seven palms, I do not have many memories of that time, except that of the great night in which the Marauders together with the Panthers of the Shendi forest put the Oasis to fire and sword, destroying everything and killing my family, we children escaped death thanks to a faithful slave, she hid us in a basket, taking us away to the city of Korat, we were welcomed by the Ubar who entrusted us to the Notary of the city, Sir Scarp, following the arrival of Lady BB and Sir Mith, having no children and the Notary by then old, they adopted me, but after some time the Panthers who had sworn to exterminate the El Nairad family, one night attacked Korat which despite having been built on a sheer hill, entered with the help of some accomplices from the inside, put the city to fire and sword taking advantage of the surprise factor, once again we were forced to escape, luck would have it That Sir Mith was building the Ship Rock harbor down in the valley, and that night we were with them. So we escaped again. This time we headed north, to the small town of Windermerr, then to Finnurfiord, where we stayed until we were old enough to go to study at Scribe.

It was already winter when we sailed up the Olni River from the Wosk River, an estuary. A few days later, we arrived in Olni. We docked at the large harbor, where many ships were moored for loading and unloading. Some pirate ships were moored on the southern side of the docks, near the shipyards. The snow covered everything, everything was white. A biting cold assailed me even to set foot on that icy dock. It wasn't a good sign, but with an escort, we climbed that enormous staircase that led to the large, high gates that kept the population safe.

It wasn't Lady Lucy, whom I knew, but her son, the Commander of the Guards, who looked at me with suspicion. He didn't seem like a Saint either. After presenting the documents and the letter declaring that I would be the new Magistrate, I was accompanied to my accommodation on the avenue on the left, where all the warehouses and shops overlooked. The house was beautiful on the first floor with a large balcony and two large rooms. The balcony overlooked the avenue where a beautiful baker's shop was located opposite. A slave took me around, first visiting the city and then the area of the Caste Towers, separated by very high gates. The next day I would officially enter the Scribes' Tower.
