π©️ The Waters of Thunder Mountain: A Flamboyant Account of Gorean Fertility
There are places on the Barbarian world where people have travelled for centuries to “take the waters”, St. Moritz, Bath, Baden‑Baden, Saratoga Springs. Spa towns where mineral‑rich springs were believed to heal, strengthen, and even restore vigor to the weary. Goreans, of course, are no strangers to such notions. Scrolls make references to fertility, the Priest‑Kings themselves are said to have shaped the cycles of life, birth, and renewal across the Counter‑Earth.
But now, a new rumor rises - no, erupts - from the slopes of the Thunder Mountain.ττ
Something is happening in the waters.
Something fertile.
Something Gorean.
Something… Thunderous.
πΏ A Peculiarity of the Mountain
Thunder Mountain has always been a crossroads: pilgrims bound for the Sardar, travellers seeking wisdom, initiates passing through on their sacred duties. The city that shares its name has long been known for hospitality, warmth, and the ever‑present rumble of the mountain’s voice.
But recently, a new phenomenon has taken root.
Three companionships.
Three pregnancies.
And whispers of a fourth.
In Gorean terms, this is no small matter. Fertility is not merely biological, it is civic, spiritual, and deeply woven into the fabric of caste life. Gorean fertility is influenced by:
the strength of the land, the purity of water, the vitality of the people and the blessings (or whims) of Priest‑Kings. Thunder Mountain, it seems, has all four.
π§ The Waters Themselves
The waters that flow from the Mountain are fed by mineral veins deep within the stone, ancient channels carved long before the first Gorean city was raised. They are clear, cold, and alive with the peculiar energy that only mountain springs possess and now? they appear to be encouraging fertility.
Women of the city, Free Women and slaves alike, have begun to speak of, renewed cycles,
strengthened vitality, and unexpected quickening.
The Builders have recently along with the new city been channeling new aqueducts from deeper into the mountain following the disaster that befell the population when many were lost. The Physicians swear the water is clean. The Initiates are silent meaning the Priest‑Kings have not spoken. Yet the pregnancies continue.
πΈ A City Becoming Known for Birth
Thunder Mountain is becoming something rare on Gor: A fertility city.
The great disaster which will be spoken of at another time meant that there was 100's of people killed, sent to the city of Dust through the toxin poured into the waters by one hand.
The life and heart of the city nearly stopped beating entirely, with those who survived or were out of the city, with a few hands of the strongest and most loyal they are now witnessing this rebalancing, it is as if the priest kings have blessed those who live within its walls with more than hope, but of life itself.
Not officially, of course. No scribe has yet dared to inscribe such a claim into the city’s records. But Goreans talk. Travellers gossip. Pilgrims whisper. And the rumor spreads faster than a tarn on a tailwind.
Three pregnancies in rapid succession—each from different companionships—has caused the city’s women to look at their cups of mountain water with new curiosity.
Is it the minerals? Is it the numerous lightning strikes imbuing the waters with life and energy? Perhaps its the altitude? The thunder itself? Or something older, deeper, and more Gorean?
No one knows, but everyone is watching.
πΊ Should Travellers Take the Waters?
Whether the waters will work for travellers, pilgrims, or those journeying onward to the Sardar remains to be documented. Its true their physician sees each of those who wishes to go on, the City records pilgrims who adventure through its gates or stay at its Inn. But this, this is new, Gorean fertility is famously unpredictable, sometimes generous, sometimes stubborn, sometimes entirely dependent on the whims of Priest‑Kings.
But one thing is certain:
Those who wish for children should consider a trip to Thunder Mountain. Not for miracles.
Not for guarantees. But for the quiet, persistent rumor that the Mountain is blessing those who dwell beneath it.
A hidden blessing.
A mountain’s gift.
A thunderous promise.
π©️ Thunder Mountain: Where Fertility Finds Its Voice
The city has always been warm.
It has always been welcoming.
It has always been alive.
But now? It is fertile.
And Goreans, practical, earthy, life‑bound Goreans are beginning to take notice.
If you seek companionship, renewal, or the hope of children, the path to Thunder Mountain may be worth the journey. The waters flow. The land thrives. And the Mountain, ever rumbling, seems to be whispering:
“Come. Drink. Grow.”
